Report: Milan are unbeaten, and Cardinale still left Sassuolo angry with Amorim
First reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, via Foot Mercato · 12 OCT 23:07
Milan have not lost in six Serie A games, and their owner still drove away from Sassuolo unhappy. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Gerry Cardinale watched the 1-1 at the Mapei Stadium and left disappointed, and Ruben Amorim is now in his sights.
- Sassuolo 1-1 Milan on Sunday: Adrien Rabiot scored on 63 minutes, Sassuolo equalised five minutes later (AC Milan).
- Milan are unbeaten in Serie A after six games, with 12 points (beIN Sports).
- It is the second time in a month: after a 2-0 home defeat by Benfica in the Europa League in September, Portuguese media reported Cardinale demanding an immediate reaction (RTP).
Foot Mercato, citing Gazzetta, writes that Cardinale expected a far more convincing team, in play and in results. Some refereeing calls fed his anger, including a challenge by Armand Laurienté on Mario Gila that Milan felt was worth a red card, but it was how Milan managed the game that bothered him most.
The paper's wording is that Amorim keeps his owner's trust for now but is "nel mirino", in the crosshairs. The club is not commenting. The aim is still to finish in the Champions League places, which Milan missed last season when they came fifth and Massimiliano Allegri left.
September had already brought the first test. After the Benfica defeat, the end of a run of three games without a win, Portuguese public broadcaster RTP reported that Cardinale wanted an immediate reaction from Amorim. Milan responded with an unbeaten league run that is still going.
The squad is getting thinner. Alexis Saelemaekers needs surgery and is expected out for around four months (Eurosport Italia), and Matteo Gabbia was carried off at Sassuolo with a thigh injury (Eurosport Italia).
Amorim survives until winter at least
If the report is right, our editorial team reads it as an owner reacting to how Milan look, not to the table. Twelve points from six games and no defeats is a run no club sacks a coach for in October, and Cardinale chose Amorim four months ago. The real pressure will come in Europe and in the games before the November break; if Milan lose two of those in a row, this story will be very different, and we will update it.

- Still open, and the week went Milan's way: they won 4-0 at RB Salzburg in the Europa League on Thursday and beat Atalanta 3-2 at San Siro on Sunday, so they are fourth and still unbeaten in Serie A with 15 points from seven games (ESPN). La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanReports) says Cardinale and Amorim have since discussed where to hold the 2027 pre-season camp, and Sky (via SempreMilan) reports that the owner keeps full faith in his coach. Milan have made no official comment.
