Lamine Yamal played 281 minutes for Spain after De la Fuente promised a 270-minute cap
Luis de la Fuente promised that no Spain player would play more than 270 minutes in this international window, and Lamine Yamal went back to Barcelona with 281, not counting stoppage time. He was the only player to start all four games, and Barcelona play Getafe on Saturday.
- 281 minutes in four starts, 11 over the coach's own limit (AS).
- Four goals and one assist in the window: England, two against Croatia in Seville, Czechia in Oviedo.
- Barcelona then play Getafe (Saturday), Galatasaray (Tuesday) and the Clásico on 25 October.
Before the game in Split, De la Fuente said he had committed to keeping every player under 270 minutes in this window. Lamine Yamal started all four matches and finished with 281, AS reports, without counting added time. He never asked to come off, and De la Fuente replaced him late in the last game.
On the pitch the window went well for him: he scored against England, twice against Croatia in Seville and once against Czechia in Oviedo, and set up another goal in Seville. In Split he did not score and went to the bench annoyed with his finishing. "Se ha ido al banquillo un poco enfadado" (he went to the bench a bit angry), Pedri said. "Es un chico que se exige mucho a sí mismo" (he demands a lot of himself).
AS describes a truce between Hansi Flick and De la Fuente after earlier clashes over how Lamine is managed. Several Spain players went home injured during this window, among them Barcelona's Eric García. Mundo Deportivo writes on Thursday that Flick is relieved his internationals came back healthy, but that some of them are tired.
Barcelona host Getafe at Camp Nou on Saturday at 18:30 Madrid time (17:30 UK). Then come Galatasaray away on Tuesday 13 October, Betis on the 17th, PSG in Paris on the 20th and the Clásico on the 25th.
He starts Saturday, rests in Istanbul
We think the 11 extra minutes matter less than the next 17 days. With Raphinha a doubt for Getafe, Lamine Yamal is the one forward Flick cannot do without on Saturday, so we expect him to start. The rest comes on Tuesday in Istanbul: if he starts against Galatasaray as well, Barcelona will have chosen the Champions League over the Clásico, and we will say so.
