Three teams scored five in one Liga MX round, the first time since 2005
First reported by TUDN · 19 OCT 22:18
In one Saturday evening in Mexico, Santos put five past Querétaro, América scored five at León and Cruz Azul hit Juárez for five. Three teams scoring five in the same Liga MX round had not happened since round 7 of the Apertura 2005, TUDN and Récord reported on Monday.
- Round 12 of the Apertura 2026: Santos 5-0 Querétaro, León 3-5 América, Cruz Azul 5-0 Juárez. The other six games added 12 goals, for 30 in the round, ESPN's match data shows.
- The tournament has 318 goals in 106 games, exactly 3.0 a game, and three straight rounds of 30 or more: 35 in round 10, then 30 and 30.
- The last run of three 30-goal rounds in a row came in the Apertura 2015, which managed five, rounds 4 to 8.
Santos missed a penalty after 14 minutes and still won 5-0. Tahiel Jiménez scored three, the last in stoppage time, and Querétaro played the last 23 minutes without Diego Reyes, sent off with the score at 3-0. Before Saturday that Querétaro defence had let in eight goals in ten games. At the Estadio León, Henry Martín scored a penalty and set up a second for América; León pulled back to 3-2 after 82 minutes, then Óscar Perea and Brian Rodríguez scored within six minutes, and Ismael Díaz headed a third for León in the sixth minute of stoppage time.
Cruz Azul were 3-0 up at half-time against Juárez through Andrés Montaño, Carlos Rodríguez and Omar Campos, and Agustín Palavecino and Rogelio González added the rest. All three wins came between 17:00 and 23:00 in Mexico City. The 2005 round they echo was played on 10 and 11 September 2005: Cruz Azul 5-3 Atlante, Veracruz 0-5 Tigres and Pachuca 5-1 Chiapas. TUDN and Récord name Pachuca's opponent as Tijuana, but ESPN's archive shows Chiapas, and Tijuana were not in the top flight in 2005.
The bigger number is the average. This Apertura has 29 more goals than the Clausura 2026 had after 12 rounds, according to TUDN, and a year ago the Apertura 2025 reached 365 goals after 13 rounds, Fox Sports México reported. América top the table with 24 points from 11 games; Juárez are last on 4, with 8 scored and 31 conceded. Two games are still to be played, which is why the count stands at 106 and not 108.
What happens next: round 13 is midweek. On Tuesday, Guadalajara host Necaxa at 18:07 Mexico City time, Juárez play Atlante at 19:00 and Tigres meet León at 21:00. On Wednesday, Atlas host América at 19:00, Pachuca play Cruz Azul at 21:00 and Santos host Pumas at 21:10.
Liga MX is a three-goal league now
We don't read Saturday as a freak night. Liga MX reached 365 goals after 13 rounds a year ago and sits at exactly 3.0 a game today, so a five-goal score is the top end of an ordinary week in this league. The easiest place to find goals is the bottom of the table: Juárez have conceded 31 in 12 and are at home on Tuesday. If rounds 13 and 14 both finish under 25 goals, we will call this streak a peak and say so here.
