About Liga Profesional and how we cover it
The Torneo Clausura 2026 is the second tournament of the Argentine season. It started on 23 July with 30 clubs split into two zones of 15. Each club plays 16 rounds: 14 against its own zone, one interzonal round for the clásicos and one interzonal match decided by draw. The top eight in each zone reach the round of 16, and the final is a single match on Saturday 12 December at the Estadio Único Diego Armando Maradona in La Plata.
The playoff format changes how the last rounds of the zone are played. The round of 16, the quarter-finals and the semi-finals are single matches at the ground of the better-placed club, so finishing third instead of sixth can mean an extra home game in every knockout round. Distance matters too: a trip from Buenos Aires to Mendoza, Tucumán or Santiago del Estero is long, and clubs still involved in continental competition rotate around their midweek games.
