About China Open and how we cover it

The China Open in Beijing is a combined event on outdoor hard courts: a WTA 1000 with a 96-player draw over 12 days and an ATP 500 with a 32-player draw that ends on a Tuesday. In 2026 both started on 30 September. Novak Djokovic won his seventh China Open title when Alex de Minaur retired in the final on 6 October, and on 11 October wildcard Zheng Qinwen beat Mirra Andreeva 7-5, 6-4 to become the first Chinese woman to win the WTA 1000 title. The 2027 edition runs from 29 September to 10 October.

Beijing is a scheduling puzzle. The ATP final is on Tuesday and Shanghai starts the next day, so the men who go deep arrive there short of rest, while some top players skip Beijing to be fresh for the Masters. The WTA event runs into the second Sunday, and Wuhan starts on the Monday, so the women's finalists face the same squeeze. Autumn conditions are usually mild, and home crowds can lift Chinese players in a way that does not show in the rankings.

We do not pick every match. We choose the China Open matches where we have a clear read on the result, write the analysis and publish one pick with the odds at the time of publication. Every pick goes into our public tracker and is settled on the official result. Analyses from every edition stay on this page.
